Our Vision:
Christ has given a vision to the Church in the Great Commission to "Love one another as I have loved you." (John: 15: 12-17)
Epiphany Episcopal Church's purpose is to worship God in Christ; to offer Christ's love, reconciliation and hope; to provide spiritual fellowship and leadership; to reach out into the community and beyond and spread the good news.
The purpose of our Stephen Ministry is to equip, send, and support God's gifted people to bring Christ's healing love to hurting people.
2008 - 2009:
Epiphany’s Stephen Ministry started in January 2008, when our Rector and four others attended Stephen Leader Training in Orlando for a full week. We then presented an 8-hour course for all interested: “Discovering God’s Vision for Your Life: You and Your Spiritual Gifts.” Its purposes were personal discovery, education about spiritual gifts, and motivation for ministry. Over 50 Congregants participated! The course culminated in a very moving service of dedication and ministry celebration.
In June, 2008, the Stephen Leaders and Fr. Dull started to train Epiphany’s first group of Stephen Ministers. Five men and women learned how to show God’s mercy, care and compassion as they listen to and pray with others who are hurting. The Commissioning of these dedicated pioneers took place at the end of September 2009 with a very moving ceremony.
Since it’s inception, our Stephen Ministers have provided loving, Christian care to those experiencing:
•
Grief / bereavement
Terminal illness
•
Nursing Home confinement
Financial difficulties
•
Serious illness and
Other crises
They have given approximately 180 hours of care to 11 individuals during the 2008-2009 year and have spent 325 hours in training, supervision, and continuing education.
CELEBRATION!!
Sunday, November 8, was the date for recognizing and celebrating the wonderful dedication of our current Stephen Ministers.
Jeff Jarabek, Barbie Rounds, Judy Scholle, and Janet Satyanathan were presented with certificates and roses following their reaffirmation of commitment for the next year. Father Wright recommissioned them and offered prayers of blessing in their ministry. The entire 10:15 AM congregation joined with them and the Stephen Leaders in singing Here I Am, Lord, which has become a very significant hymn of dedication for this special ministry.
PLANS FOR 2010
Stephen Leaders have announced that training for a new group of Stephen Ministers will start in early January, 2010. Applications are available and interviews will be scheduled for early December, 2009.
